Lenten Prayers Prohibit Nuclear Weapons Work
The monthly peace demonstration for justice at Livermore's nuclear weapons institution (LLNL) for April will be Wednesday April 5th for one hour beginning at 7:30am. The location at LLNL is near the Visitor Center on Greenville Rd, at the East Gate entrance closest to the National Ignition Facility (NIF). This monthly peaceful picket against California's nuclear weapons program is in memory of the world's victims of nuclearism. The demonstrators recognize the danger LLNL poses to civilians in locally around LLNL.
Marcus Page-Collonge, a Catholic Worker said, "We come to pray here monthly because the violence of Livermore is real and permeates the rest of our society. This month we're praying and picketing on the anniversary date of six nuclear bomb explosions from 1962, '63, '65 '73, '75, and '77, code-named Doormouse Prime, Ferret Prime, Kestrel, Marsilly, Dining Car, and Natoma, respectively." Page-Collonge went on to explain that the prayers are in favor of ending "...ongoing work for planetary destruction. It's time to stop the spiritual terror and environmental threat here." These monthly vigils for the past four years at LLNL aim for the peaceful end of LLNL's plutonium experiments within the National Ignition Facility (NIF).
The international Catholic Worker movement has consistently stood in opposition to nuclearism since the late 1940s. LLNL is the greatest purveyor of "nuclear weapons terrorism in California", according to Catholic Workers in Calaveras County, CA.
