Prayer-Activists Want Livermore Employees
To Talk About Social Justice
Catholic Worker Farmers of Calaveras County return to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) to picket and hold a vigil on September 3rd at 3:30pm until 5:00pm. The farmers travel two hours from Calaveras County, CA each month for a peace vigil at LLNL, and this month's picketing against wasting money and spiritual energy on weapons of mass destruction is held on the Feast of Saint Phoebe, one of the earliest leaders of Christianity. Like St. Phoebe and the early Christians, this vigil is dedicated to justice for the poor, who suffer due to the wastefulness of LLNL in this day and age.
The Catholic Worker Farmers hold these demonstrationa as a call to conscience for LLNL workers to promote justice instead of environmental destruction. Catholic Workers hope LLNL workers will work for social, environmental and economic justice in opposition to the violence and spiritual terrorism which are central to LLNL's mission. The National Ignition Facility (NIF) is particularly offensive to abolitionists, as NIF is significant in the pro-nuclear weapons work at LLNL.
Prayer-activists at LLNL hold monthly vigils, with the aim for the peaceful end of LLNL's unlawful pursuits within the NIF, and any other pro-nuclear weapons work at LLNL. Catholic Workers who hold these prayer-actions at LLNL are explicitly nuclear abolitionist, in that they desire ALL countries and all peoples to disarm their hearts from addiction to mega-violent tactics of "keeping the peace".
California's Catholic Worker Farm is regionally located between LLNL and the NNSS (Nevada's nuclear testing grounds), so the farmers organize monthly vigils for environmental justice and love for enemies in Livermore, CA, a place which actively threatens the environment of Nevada and other earthly locations. The international Catholic Worker movement has consistently stood in opposition to nuclearism, and LLNL is apparently the biggest offender in California.
